Interact Update – 07 April 2009
The Ashland County-West Holmes Interact Club held their annual Leadership Breakfast on March 31, 2009. Interact members were joined by Mr. Rod Cheyney, Principal. Mr. Cheyney commended students for their leadership in the school and community as evidenced by their activities.
Harrison Flora, Interact President, led students in the Rotary 4 Way Test as well as the Pledge of Allegiance. Harrison then had members discuss upcoming projects for the rest of the school year. These projects include:
Membership Drive – Prizes will be awarded to the Interact Member who signs up the most new members
Used Book Collection – Asheena French and Nicole Gilbert were thanked for chairing this project.
Lock-In – Asheena French was thanked for chairing this event. Students came together last Friday for an evening of games, movies, and pizza.
Change Collection – Sarah Hart identified that change is still being collected to “fill the jug.” All funds will be used to assist students with paying their school fees.
Food Drive – Cody Summler is chairing this event. A push will be made to collect as much food as possible before the end of the school year. Food will be distributed to students whose families are struggling due to the current economic situation.
Tea Party with the Easter Bunny – Ashley Holiman is chairing this event, which will take place on April 4, 2009 from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 noon. This is a new event for our organization. Ashley asked members to sign up to assist on the date of the event.
Community Yard Sale and Craft Show – Asheena French is chairing this event which will take place on May 2, 2009 in conjunction with the Car Show. Asheena identified that posters are in the process of being made and that advertisements will be placed in the Ashland Times Gazette in order to ask for exhibitors. Funds earned from this event will benefit the Interact Club’s Crystal Finley Memorial Scholarship.
Year End Activity – Harrison is chairing this event. A date will be scheduled soon for Interact members to travel to Acres of Fun for an evening of laser tag, bumper boats, miniature golf, and go carts. Members will then go to Ci-Ci’s for pizza to end the evening.
Harrison ended the meeting by thanking Matt Hetsler and Nate Edwards for their effort in chairing the Leadership Breakfast, as well as Mrs. Dederich (Culinary Arts Intructor) and her students for all of the wonderful food.
Harrison concluded the meeting and thanked all who participated. Next meeting will be held on April 14th at 8:15 in the Group Room.
